Topco Media conducted the survey that included businesses which fall into the exempt micro enterprises (EME) range – i.e. those who have a turnover of R10-million or less; those which classify as qualifying small enterprises (QSEs) i.e. those who have a turnover between R10- and R50-million; and then generic enterprises who have a turnover of R50-million.
The survey found that most of these businesses’ short-term challenges include finances and would appreciate financial support during this time – but none of them foresees closing down in the short-term period.
During lockdown, many of the companies that are able to, are operating online, and more than 75 percent of them do not need assistance to digitise their businesses.

Of the businesses that took part in this survey, more than 80 percent are looking for collaborations with start-ups, the public sector and corporates – so now is the time for corporate leaders and young business owners to approach those in which they see investment and/or supply chain opportunities.
During this time of business unusual collaborations and working together are key for survival and growth.
