The 2020 Top Empowerment Virtual Conference, held on 22 and 23 July by Topco Media last year, was an amazing success, as panellists at the two-day event focused on themes surrounding South Africa’s progression towards an all-inclusive economy, through transformation, after Covid-19. One of the standout transformation sessions on the second day was hosted by Nedbank, a global leader in innovative banking solutions.

This year Topco Media is proud to announce its continued partnership with Nedbank, which has received many international awards for its leadership in innovation and technology. Nedbank will be a main session partner for the 2021 Top Empowerment Conference.

Nedbank highlights from the 2020 conference

As they hosted the session ‘The Future of Transformation and Inclusive Growth’, Nedbank addressed important issues that are prevalent in South Africa today. The all-women panel discussion was moderated by Ntombi Mcoyi, founder and Managing Director of InRise Consulting. The session boasted a phenomenal selection of powerhouse panellists: Khensani Nobanda, Nedbank Group Executive of Group Marketing and Corporate Affairs; Bongiwe Kunene, CEO of the Banking Association South Africa; Farai Mubaiwa, Partner Management Lead for the Youth Employment Service (YES) and co-founder of Africa Matters; and Zanele Morrison, Director of Marketing and Corporate Affairs at the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.

They engaged in an insightful conversation about transforming the workforce, embracing diverse skills and opinions, and looking beyond race, creed and gender for finding actionable solutions.

‘We realise that we cannot be a sustainable business in an unsustainable country,’ said Nobanda. ‘Our successes are intrinsically linked to the macro success of the countries we operate in — we have to drive transformation.’

‘We embarked on the journey a few years ago, asking ourselves how we can make society more successful, because a successful society is a transformed society’, she continued. ‘We have learnt, through trial and error, that we need partnerships to succeed — we cannot do it alone. We have realised that we need to innovate, we need technology, and digital transformation is incredibly important on this journey. And we have also realised that we need to reimagine how this could happen beyond traditional banking,’ she said.

Back for its sixth year

This year, Topco Media will present the Top Empowerment Conference for the sixth year, bringing together a trusted network of top companies, entrepreneurs and leaders who are embracing technology, transformation and innovation in Africa. In partnership with Nedbank, the virtual event will be an invaluable opportunity for companies seeking support with personalised content and solutions and will allow them to engage in important conversations and solve critical challenges. Topco Media CEO, Ralf Fletcher, shared his excitement and optimism as Topco Media and Nedbank expand on their fruitful relationship:

‘As an honorary award winner in empowerment, Nedbank has become a leader in transformation over the last few years, having achieved a level 1 broad-based black economic empowerment scorecard and playing a significant role in the finance and banking sector in South Africa. Their investment in the YES initiative is highly commendable, and Nedbank leads by example, creating a big impact wherever they extend their hands, and their enterprise and skills development programmes are exceptional. We are so grateful and honoured, here at Topco Media, to be able to partner with such a fantastic company that is dedicated to putting their weight behind transformation in 2021.’

Nedbank addresses 2021 partnership
