On Monday, 28 November 2022 our audience walked away feeling empowered and more knowledgeable about purpose-led transformation with IGNITE at the Nedbank masterclass.
Kershini Govender is currently the Executive Head of Transformation and Strategy at Nedbank Group Ltd. Her experience over the past 24 years has been in the disciplines of strategy, business analysis, project management and business transformation. She currently represents Nedbank at the Banking Association of South Africa on the Financial Sector Charter Workgroup, and is on the Board of Trustees of the Nedbank Community Trust. In discussion with the CEO of Topco Media, Ralf Fletcher, she presented how Nedbank has contributed to transformation using the IGNITE acronym.
In the past, organisations were all about being vision-led and value-driven. Then, in 2015, people started talking about a purpose-led statement.
For the longest time, transformation has been associated with redressing the injustices of the past by championing equal access to economic opportunities through legislation such as the Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) Act. However, transformation is much more than striking a balance between the previously disadvantaged and the historically favoured. It involves organisations that are driven by a purpose to better socio-economic conditions for all.
During the masterclass Kershini unpacked the 6 key learnings that make up the IGNITE acronym and the key themes in each letter that speak to the various facets of transformation. This was supported by case studies.
During the session Kershini touched on the Diversity Bonus by Scott E. Page which explains the Diversity Trumps Ability theorem saying, “A diverse group of people with mixed talent and capability will almost always reach a better result than a group of high “ability” individuals?” 1+1=3 but only when the two ones are different.
Invest in your purpose as this guides value creation. From place of work to purpose of work, carry purpose-led across everything that we do.
